Subject: toilet flush valve closes before a good flush

the flush valve float seems to fall down and close before the big
flush.   if i hold the handle and keep the float from falling closed
then i'll get the good flush... what can i do to adjust this? ... i
replaced the old one with this new one and it's not working as it
should...
